Although the literature on information systems concerning the digital transformation of companies has
increased exponentially, our results show that this topic is still being developed in the field of management, particularly in relation to the conjunction between digital transformation and top management
teams (TMTs).
After an exhaustive literature review of 126 papers, we offer a perspective that analyzes, integrates and
synthesizes previous theoretical perspectives related to digital transformation from the perspective of senior management and provides guidance for new theoretical, conceptual and methodological developments useful for the academic community.
We use a methodology that combines a systematic review of the literature with an inductive approach,
based on grounded theory, which could be useful for future reviews.
Our integrated model systematizes the main guidelines to be considered by executives who implement
digital transformation initiatives.
We offer a summary of the enabling and hindering factors identified in the literature and provide some
suggestions for focusing future research based on the theories that, according to our findings, have received widespread interest and outline a rich framework.
